MISSION: The Geneva Business Improvement District was formed in 1985 to promote an attractive and economically viable downtown (18.5 acre designated area) that is high quality in appearance and design, safe and attractive to property owners, business people, renters and shoppers. Our organization addresses programs that focus on: Business Retention, Recruitment, Marketing, and Promotion, Economic Development, and Architectural Design and Preservation.
Geneva Business Improvement District Services
Tenant Retention and Recruitment: Assist with advertising and marketing, computer training, radio exposure. Assist with financial and program opportunities. Seek out and assist area and corporate expansion to city. Services as a personal guide to supply sources, city agencies.
Streetscape Projects: Identify, develop and seek funding for projects that enhance city magnetism.
Sidewalk Maintenance: Sidewalk, curbside, parking lots alleyways, front and rear of storefront areas. Clean, sweep, weed control, haul away rubbish and trash. Snow removal of crosswalks. Maintenance of green areas, flower beds (40), hanging baskets, tree and sidewalk repairs, Christmas decorations, painting light poles, maintain Light Up Geneva lighting and banners, signage. Maintain tunnel, parking lots, and lakeside pathway.
Economic Development: Assist in tourism, work closely with county OCIDA and City IDA, Geneva Growth and Chamber of Commerce.
Storefront Enhancement: NYMS Grants, utilize Workforce Development, community service and student interns for storefront enhancements.
Events: Sponsor of Annual Cruisin’ Night & Block Party (July), Light Up Geneva Auction (November), and both large and mini-events with area organizations and individuals throughout the year.
Grants: Regularly seeking grants of all types that help the downtown businesses and property owners.
Signage: Administer CDAT sign committee, assisting businesses with design, colors, layout and type of materials, as well as code requirements.
Business Leases: Assist in direction potential tenants to property owners and explanation of rates, improvements, terms and length.
Holiday Lighting and Décor: Raise funds for downtown Holiday beautification efforts. Maintain current lighting and replace old lighting when necessary.
Partnerships: Form partnerships with the city and city-wide agencies, as well as county agencies. Going beyond turf boundaries working and sharing together.
