Financial Advisor

Canandaigua National Bank & Trust

Location:  Canandaigua, NY or Geneva, NY

What does a Financial Advisor at CNB do? 

A Financial Advisor at Canandaigua National Bank & trust provides comprehensive financial planning and advice to help individuals and families pursue their financial goals.  As a Financial Advisor, you work one-on-one with clients to develop individually tailored financial plans comprised of personalized investment products and services.  You provide ongoing assistance through service that help clients accumulate wealth and safeguard their assets. Responsible for meeting and/or exceeding investment volume and insurance policy goals.

What competencies are needed to be successful in this role?

  • A B.S. or B.A. degree in a related field or equivalent education/experience.
  • Life, Accident, and Health Insurance license, and FINRA Series 7 and 66 or FINRA Series 7, 63, and 65 registrations are required.
  • A minimum of three (3) years’ related experience normally required.  
  • Proficient interpersonal skills with the ability to build lasting client relationships. 
  • Excellent presentation and communication skills, with the ability to offer advice and education to our clients.
  • Proficient PC skills 
  • Valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, with the ability to meet clients at various locations.

What does a successful first year in this position look like?  

  • Provide investment advisory services through the use of client profiles and financial plans to identify customer’s needs. Recommends products and services that best meet those needs.
  • Ensure necessary administration work is completed for all transactions such as paperwork to open brokerage and advisory accounts as well as processing buy and sell orders of securities held by clients of the bank. 
  • Works to resolve product or service issues for new and existing clients to ensure customer satisfaction.
  • Develops and/or expands customer/bank relationship for existing book of business by cross-selling additional assigned products and services through in-person meetings, written correspondence, and external sales calls.
  • Promotes cross departmental synergy by providing information and referrals to customer seeking other services, i.e. commercial, trust, and mortgage.
  • Ensures development of successful internal relationships with branches and staff within assigned region by providing continuous education and advice for all Financial Advisor services. Assists with coaching to help staff identify qualified referrals.

Universal Banker
Canandaigua National Bank & Trust

Location: Geneva Office

What does a Universal Banker do at CNB?

As a Universal Banker at CNB, you will be responsible for providing an exceptional in-branch customer experience by handling every client need from sales to service. The Universal Bank provides both teller and platform services, ensuring a full-service customer experience.  This position also shares branch operational duties, such as opening and closing functions, with others in the same position at their branch.

In this role, you will provide quality customer service by being friendly and courteous while answering customers’ questions. As you build relationships, the opportunities to make recommendations based on our wide range of competitive banking options will naturally arise. This needs-based approach to our personal service builds long-lasting relationships, ones not measured in years but in generations. This role is also on the front lines of our fraud and risk management efforts and receives robust education to abide by current regulations, bank policies and procedures while also being trained to keep an eye out for potential fraud. 

What competencies are needed to be successful in this role?

  • A B.S. or B.A. degree or a combination of education and work experience.
  • Minimum of one (1) year of banking experience required.  Platform experience strongly preferred.
  • Notary certification or willingness to obtain.
  • Proficiency with a PC and associated programs (such as Microsoft Office).
  • Proficient interpersonal relations, communicative, and sales skills
  • Familiarity with bank products, services, operating policies and procedure
  • Strong mathematics, reading, writing and grammar skills

What does a successful first year in this position look like? 

  • Completion of 90-day training program.
  • Reach or exceed 100% for all quarterly referral goals.
  • Maintain ongoing relationships with present customers to take advantage of additional cross-selling opportunities.
  • Attain proficiency in banking systems to provide direct service to customers of the bank with respect to deposit, loan, trust, and other miscellaneous products and services.
  • Become an expert with bank products and services, including associated policies and procedures in order to mitigate risk to the institution and its clients
  • Make minimal errors with regard to all transactions processed.
